Is It Harmful Not to Remove “Wisdom Teeth” ?
#Wisdom teeth Many people associate wisdom teeth extraction with pain and suffering, but did you know that not extracting them can cause even more pain? Here are a few reasons why:
  • Wisdom teeth should be extracted to prevent gum irritation as some food particles become lodged under the gums and cannot be cleaned with just brushing your teeth. This build-up of bacteria can cause gingivitis, pain, and pus
  • To avoid tooth decay, it’s highly recommended to extract wisdom teeth as area between the wisdom tooth and the adjacent second molar tooth is small and narrow and therefore is difficult to clean. Food can be lodged and cause cavities on both teeth. If treatment is delayed, you may also need to undergo additional procedures to straighten impacted neighbouring teeth
  • To avoid bone dissolution, wisdom teeth should be extracted. The pressure exerted by the wisdom tooth in it’s attempt to push up will destroy the bone surrounding the tooth root or adjacent tooth root
  • Wisdom teeth should be extracted to avoid the formation of a cyst or tumor. When wisdom teeth are left untreated for an extended period of time, they can develop as a cyst and expand without symptoms, eventually developing a tumor that destroys nearby teeth and surrounding bones
  • Wisdom teeth should be extracted to avoid jaw fractures, as the existence of the wisdom tooth thins the bone in the area and causes weakness. A weak jawbone is easily to be shattered in an accident and that’s why it’s a crucial factor in removing any wisdom teeth
  • For orthodontic reasons it can be beneficial to extract wisdom teeth as wisdom teeth take up space in the mouth. Removal allows the remaining teeth to move more easily and helps prevent orthodontic relapse
