A bright smile often begins with clean and naturally white teeth. Many people may struggle with dull teeth from tea, coffee, or daily habits. Today, we’ve got 5 simple tips using herbs and household items to help brighten your teeth and nourish your oral health at the same time!
- Salt : Ordinary salt at home is surprisingly useful! It has antibacterial properties and helps prevent plaque buildup.
How to use : Sprinkle a small amount of salt on your toothpaste before brushing, or rinse your mouth with salt water for about 1–2 minutes after brushing.
- Baking Soda : Did you know? Baking soda used for baking can also help whiten your teeth! It gently neutralizes acidity in the mouth and removes tea and coffee stains.
How to use : Use toothpaste with baking soda, or mix baking soda with a little salt. Brush your teeth for 2–3 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
- Lemon Juice : Lemon juice is acidic and can help whiten teeth, but it may also harm the enamel and cause tooth decay. Dentists therefore don’t usually recommend using it frequently.
How to use : Dilute lemon juice with an equal part of water before use. Do not use more than twice a week.
- Neem (Koi) Sticks : A traditional Thai remedy that’s still effective today! Neem helps fight bacteria in the mouth, prevents gingivitis and cavities, and freshens breath.
How to use : Use a clean 5–6 inch neem stick, chew the tip until soft, and gently rub it over your teeth. The fibers help whiten teeth and strengthen gums. Even the sap helps nourish your teeth.
- Banana Peel : Who would have thought banana peels could whiten teeth? They contain minerals like potassium and calcium that benefit your teeth.
How to use : Rub the inside of a banana peel on your teeth 2–3 times a week, for 2 minutes each time. Let it sit for 15 minutes before brushing normally.
