“Sick but don’t feel it? This wave of COVID hides more quietly than you think.”
COVID-19 has evolved significantly from a global pandemic to an endemic illness, now spreading in seasonal patterns similar to influenza. In Thailand, outbreaks are often observed after Songkran (Thai New Year) and during the school reopening period in May. The current dominant strain in 2025 is Omicron XEC. While it generally causes mild symptoms, it spreads rapidly, especially in crowded areas. Vulnerable groups are still advised to take extra precautions.

Common COVID-19 Symptoms in 2025 :
Although less severe than previous years and rarely affecting the lungs, symptoms may include :

  • High fever (may appear on day 1 or delayed to day 4–5)
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Nasal congestion, runny nose
  • Headache
  • Body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of smell or taste (in some cases)
Self-Care if You Test Positive :
  • Isolate from others for at least 3 days, and from high-risk individuals (elderly, chronically ill) for 10 days
  • Get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and monitor urine color (it should be light yellow)
  • Take fever-reducing medications as needed
  • For persistent cough, 1 teaspoon of honey may help (not for infants under 12 months)
  • Practice slow nasal breathing to ease breathing
If your symptoms are mild, self-care and symptomatic treatment are usually enough. However, if you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or belong to a high-risk group (e.g. elderly, pregnant, overweight, or with chronic diseases), seek medical attention immediately. You may require antiviral medications or close monitoring to prevent complications.
